Open Roads Team Splits From Fullbright After ‘Toxic’ Workplace Allegations

The Open Roads Team is no longer a part of Fullbright after splitting with the company.

According to Fullbright co-founder Steve Gaynor , the team — now known as The Open Roads Team — will continue to work with Annapurna Interactive, but is no longer connected to its former studio.

“After a great deal of consideration, it’s just no longer Fullbright’s place to represent Open Roads publicly going forward,” he confirmed. “It will be credited to The Open Roads Team at launch.”

It’s been almost two years since Gaynor stepped down as creative lead on Open Roads following accusations of creating a “toxic work culture”.

“I stepped away from the project,” he reflected.

Rumor: First Mortal Kombat 12 Info Leak Ahead of Impending Announcement

Following a tease from Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon, rumors around Mortal Kombat 12 have already started circulating ahead of any official announcement from Netherrealm Studios.

Days ago, Boon posted a short video of a ticking clock on Twitter counting down to something, and that something is most certainly Mortal Kombat 12. The clock almost reaches the 12th hour before an explosion rockets it ahead to land on “1.”

Today, another Twitter account associated with previous PSN leaks, @billbil_kun, alleges that the next grizzly fighter is titled Mortal Kombat 1, making that “1” in Boon’s video seems a little more significant.

Studio Working on Secret PlayStation Game Hit by Layoffs as Sony Reevaluates Portfolio

Deviation Games has laid off a number of developers as Sony reevaluates its portfolio. The studio is currently working on a new original AAA IP with PlayStation.

Several developers from Deviation Games took to LinkedIn to announce that they had been let go of their current positions. These include now-former associate producer Jared Bailey, technical combat and encounter designer Luke Stumpf, and software engineer Kyle Perras.

Not much context or information was provided about the reason for layoffs, but Perras mentioned that Deviation Games “ran into a difficult situation and was forced to make a number of layoffs which I was a part of.

Square Enix Considering Creating New Studios and Acquiring Existing Ones

Between the releases of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, Forspoken, and Octopath Traveler II, it’s been another busy year for Square Enix. Still, though, the company hopes to expand, and this might include forming or acquiring new studios.

Today, Square Enix revealed that it is thinking about creating new studios and acquiring existing studios as part of its plan to grow its in-house development resources.

According to slides from the company’s full earnings report released today, Square Enix plans to “consider M&A, creating new studios, and taking minority stakes” to bring in more external development resources.

Tears of the Kingdom’s Launch Is Even Being Celebrated by PlayStation and Xbox

Nintendo has been receiving messages of congratulations from across the industry regarding the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This includes messages from both PlayStation and Xbox.

Both the official PlayStation and Xbox Twitter accounts tweeted out commemorating the launch day. While the three companies are actively competing in the home console hardware market, it’s always refreshing to see the companies publicly supporting one another every now and then, especially when a highly anticipated product is released.

Tears of the Kingdom Voice Actress Patricia Summersett on How Playing Zelda Changed Her Life

Patricia Summersett had no idea what she was auditioning for after being summoned in for a mysterious casting call in the mid-2010s. She was a veteran actress by this point of her career, lending her talents to a wide gradient of interstitial characters in both animation and film. (Summersett pops up in Assassin’s Creed: Rogue and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. Rainbow Six fans will know her as Ash, the spunky FBI agent who brings a grenade launcher to a gunfight.)

So, when Summersett was handed a blank script with a few faint, Arthurian motifs, she treated it like another day at the office.

“It just looked like an RPG fantasy,” said Summersett.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Includes a Truly Ridiculous Tribute to Link’s Awakening

Hogwarts Legacy’s Nintendo Switch Release Delayed

Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy has achieved good results on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but fans will have to wait a little longer to see if the Switch version can offer the same results.

Originally set to release in July, Avalanche Software announced on Twitter today that Hogwarts Legacy is being delayed until November for further optimizmation.

“We know fans are looking forward to playing on Switch, therefore creating the best possible experience is our top priority. Thank you for your patience,” the team wrote on Hogwarts Legacy’s feed.

Hogwarts Legacy launches on Nintendo Switch on 11/14/23.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s Pizza Recipe Is Surprisingly Hilarious
