Tears of the Kingdom’s Ascend Ability Was Originally a Developer Cheat Code

Source: IGN.com’s RSS Feed

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s Ascend ability, which lets players move through cave roofs straight to the surface, was originally a cheat code used by developers for a quick escape.

Speaking to Polygon, long-time Nintendo developers Eiji Aonuma and Hidemaro Fujibayashi said they found exiting Tears of the Kingdom’s long and winding caves so tedious that they would essentially hit a special escape button that was available to them in a debug version of the game.

“The Ascend ability was actually the result of a debug feature that we have in the game,” Fujibayashi said.

So if you haven’t already played Breath of the Wild and are wanting to dive right into what our Tears of the Kingdom review called a “A remarkable sequel that somehow raises the bar”, you may want to slow your roll.

Source: IGN.com’s RSS Feed

They’ll probably fail, taken down by ambush, infighting, bad luck – but maybe, just maybe, fortune favors them and they destroy some unspeakable horror… and then gear up for the next run. That’s the routine in Darkest Dungeon 2, where I was never sure if I’d journey from desperate despair to delicious delight, or from frolicking fun to futile frustration, every time I booted it up.
