Wile E. Coyote heads to Hyrule

We’re now three days into The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which has certainly seen a lot of players dive into the latest Hyrule adventure. A big part of this new entry is construction: being able to build and break things in equal measure thanks to the Ultrahand power.

Unsurprisingly, everyone has built some weird, weird stuff with it. Cars and planes seem almost banal compared to what I’ve seen.

It’s a post-Tears of the Kingdom world out there and we’re just living in it, baby. After a few years of bubbling anticipation, the latest entry in The Legend of Zelda series has finally arrived, and according to reviews, it just might be worth the extra $10 Nintendo convinced everyone to pay for it.

It’s dangerous to go alone

My favorite moment in the Zelda franchise, without question, is when Link picks up Marin like an item in Link’s Awakening. No matter how many times I see it, the “do-do-do-doooooo” and flavor text describing Marin always gets a laugh out of me.

It’s the type of meta-joke that I could see a cheeky indie developer making in 2010. Except this is an official Nintendo Zelda game from 1993.

A glimpse into what’s to come

It’s not often that we get an insight into a sequel’s storyline before it releases. Thankfully, we have the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 prequel comic written by Christos Gage with art by Ig Guara. This comic will provide clues on which characters we’ll see, and some of the story beats we could witness play out in the highly anticipated game.

Drop the monarchy

As the prophecy has foretold, evil will rise, time and time again, and a hero will show up to make it stop. Their job would be a lot easier if there wasn’t also a third person in the prophecy who, time and time again, makes everything worse.

Some strategic marketing is necessary to achieve this. Piling up good reviews from critics and gamers is also vital, meaning it’s essential for games to launch in a polished state.

Go Nagai’s legendary series hits the shmup scene

Something a bit special from the retro funsters of Hamster this week, as Banpresto’s coin-op adaptation of the much-loved manga/anime series Mazinger Z has joined the Arcade Archives, and is now available to download on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
